We ask before we track

Cookie policy

This policy explains which cookies and similar technologies #SheDIDIT vzw (Belgian enterprise number 0680.560.710) uses on shedidit.be and on the member platform, what each one is for, how long it lasts, and how you change your mind.

It sits alongside our privacy policy, which explains what we do with personal data more generally.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • We ask before we place anything that is not strictly necessary. Nothing from another company loads until you say yes.
  • Refusing is one click, in the same place and at the same size as accepting.
  • You can change your answer at any time from Cookie settings, at the foot of every page.
  • We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertising networks, and we do not run any advertising cookies of our own.

WHAT A COOKIE IS

A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser so it can recognise that browser later. The same rules apply to anything with the same effect, such as local storage or a tracking pixel, and where this policy says "cookie" it means all of them.

THE FOUR GROUPS

Necessary (always on)

These make the site work at all: keeping you signed in, remembering your language, and remembering the cookie choice you made on this page. Without them the service you asked for cannot be delivered, so the law does not require us to ask, and there is no switch to turn them off. If you block them in your browser, signing in will stop working.

Functional (we ask first)

These let content from other companies load: the video players and the map of members. They are not needed for the site to work, but without them you see a placeholder instead of a video or a map, and one click on that placeholder loads it.

Statistics (we ask first)

These let us measure properly rather than roughly: which pages work, where visitors come from, how far down a page people read, how long they stay, and which links and buttons get used. We run this ourselves. The data is never sold, never shared with anyone else, and never used to advertise to you.

Marketing (we ask first)

These let our newsletter sign-up form and posts from social media load on the page. The companies behind them can recognise you on other websites, which is exactly why we do not load them until you agree.

COOKIES WE SET OURSELVES

NameGroupWhat it doesHow long
sb-<project>-auth-tokenNecessaryKeeps you signed in to the member platform. Set by Supabase, our hosting and login provider, on our own domain.Until you sign out; the session itself expires after 1 hour and renews while you are active
NEXT_LOCALENecessaryRemembers whether you are reading the site in Dutch, French or English.1 year
sdi_consentNecessaryRemembers the choice you made on the cookie banner, so you are not asked again on every page. This is also our record that you were asked.6 months
sdi_vidStatisticsA random number with no meaning of its own, so we can tell a returning visitor from a new one. It is not derived from your device, your address or anything about you.13 months
sdi_sesStatisticsA random number that groups the pages you view into one visit.30 minutes, extended while you keep browsing

The two statistics cookies are only ever placed after you agree, and both are deleted the moment you withdraw that agreement.

COOKIES OTHER COMPANIES SET

We do not control these and we cannot list them individually, because each company decides its own. What we control is whether they load at all, and none of them loads before you agree.

WHAT WE MEASURE, AND WHEN

Without asking

We keep a basic count of page views even if you refuse everything. It is designed so that it cannot follow you: no cookie is placed, your address is turned into a scrambled code that is thrown away and rebuilt differently every day, we keep only the country your connection reports, and repeat views of the same page on the same day count once. This is the audience measurement that data protection law allows without consent, and it is the only thing that runs when you say no.

Only after you agree to statistics

With your agreement we record, against the two random numbers above: the pages you view and in which language, the site you arrived from, any campaign tag in the link you clicked, how far down each page you scrolled, how long you were actively on it, links that took you off our site (the site, not the page), files you downloaded, buttons we have marked as calls to action, and forms you submitted. For forms we record only that a form was sent and which one. We never record anything you typed: no field contents, no search terms, no messages.

HOW LONG WE KEEP IT

  • Basic page counts: 90 days, then deleted automatically.
  • Detailed statistics, if you agreed: 14 months, then deleted automatically.
  • The record of your cookie choice: 3 years, so we can show that we asked and what you answered. This record holds your answer and its date, not your name or your address.

CHANGING YOUR MIND

Open Cookie settings at the foot of any page. Turning a group off takes effect immediately, and any cookie we placed for that group is deleted. Withdrawing does not make what happened before unlawful, but it does stop it going forward.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you delete ours, the banner will ask you again on your next visit, because the answer you gave was itself stored in a cookie.

We ask again in any case after 6 months, and sooner if we add a new purpose or a new company to this page.
